I’m sure most people at this point in our quarantined nightmare are starting to go a bit crazy, if they haven’t already, so I decided to put together a ∾quarantine booklist∾ because there has never been a better time to read! The true blessing in disguise behind the forced social distancing is the ability to better your mind, body, spirit, AND the earth as a whole. As difficult as these past few weeks/months have been for everyone, there is always a positive take away no matter how dark the times are! So keep reading below for the 5 books on my quarantine reads – booklist ⇢⇢⇢

The first book on my list is The Daily Stoic, by Ryan Holiday.I first heard about this book, and the rest of Ryan Holidays amazing works, on The Skinny Confidential Him&Her Podcast … {whose surprised honestly they have the best recommendations}. If you want to listen to the podcast where they interviewed him ⇒ CLICK HERE.
Think of this book as the Jesus Calling of Stoicism. It has a page for everyday of the year, and the insights are honestly life changing and mind challenging. I personally love it because it allows me to start my day off thinking about how I can better myself, my reactions, my love, my happiness, and much more. It grounds you in a way that nothing else I have, personally, found can. Below i’ll include the page from today! …
MARCH 29TH: WHY DO YOU NEED TO IMPRESS THESE PEOPLE AGAIN?
“If you should ever turn your will to things outside your control in order to impress someone, be sure that you have wrecked your whole purpose in life. Be content, then, to be a philosopher in all that you do, and if you wish also to be seen as one, show yourself first that you are and you will succeed.” – Epictetus, Enchiridion, 23.
。Is there anything sadder than the immense lengths we’ll go to impress someone? The thing we’ll do to earn someone’s approval can seem, when examined in retrospect, like the result of some temporary form of insanity. Suddenly we’re wearing uncomfortable, ridiculous clothes we’ve been told are cool, eating differently, talking differently, eagerly waiting for a call or text. If we did these things because WE liked it, that would be one thing. But that’s not what it is. It’s just a means to an end — to get someone to give us the nod.
。He also writes, “to quote Fight Club again, ‘We buy things we don’t need, to impress people we don’t like.”
I recently discovered this book, “The Power of When”, by Michael Breus, PhD, while watching fashionlush’s instagram stories. She had a few stories discussing the book; but the idea of your daily schedule is what caught my attention. I don’t want to give too much of the book away … but let’s just say reading this book has absolutely changed my life in more ways than one.
In short, i’m a dolphin in every sense of the word – by word I mean the definition he attaches to “dolphin”, not the actual dolphins swimming around the ocean lololol. Below i’ll add in the brief summaries of the four chronotypes — the whole idea behind them and the breakdowns are too much for this brief summary so you’ll just have to read and figure out the rest (-;
The full title is; Sleep Smarter – 21 essential strategies to sleep your way to a better body, better health, and bigger success, by Shawn Stevenson.In sum, it is a very well written and researched book on how to fix your overall sleep hygiene while making small changes throughout the entire day, not just at night or right before bed.
It is no shock to anyone that knows me well that I have the worst sleep cycle in the world, so recently I have been searching for answers ANYWHERE & EVERYWHERE. I found this book before I found ∾The Power of When∾ and incorporated the tips Shawn Stevenson suggested in the book into my daily life. I was satisfied with the results, and loved so many things he suggests, but it didn’t fix all of my problems. I say that not in a negative way, but mostly because my narcolepsy causes me to have much deeper sleep issues than the average person. So if you are someone who is in a sleep rut, or the quarantine has thrown off your natural routine and schedule, this book is a great place to reestablish night time routines and the mindset you have in regards to sleep!
Over the summer I saw the book, “The Rewired Life – creating a better life through self-care and emotional awareness,” by Erica Spiegelman, on an instagram story fromPoosh. I looked up what it was about and I thought it would be an interesting read. I was able to finish it rather quickly. It is more of a self-help book than I anticipated … but to be fair I have no idea why I thought it wouldn’t be?? Nonetheless, it was very good! It helped me feel centered and grounded, making sure I prioritize my overall well-being so I can help others around me in the best way possible.

✰ OWN YOUR MORNING. ELEVATE YOUR LIFE ✰
I am not being dramatic when I say “The 5am Club”, by Robin Sharma was one of the best books i’ve read. I had seen a few different people talk about how much they loved the book so I decided to give it a try. I literally sat on the ground next to the open, then empty, amazon box and read 70 pages right then and there. IT WAS THAT GOOD. It was nothing that I expected it to be, but was so captivating I didn’t want to stop reading it. I wanted to read right into the morning because I was honestly excited for it to be 5am?!? like w h a t . It was awesome. I don’t want to say more because everyone honestly needs to read it themselves, so I am going to leave it at that.
These five books ended up sort of being in the realm of “self help”, which I did not intend at all. I guess it’s pretty obvious how much i’ve been trying to get my shit together hahaha. I will put out another list soon that has books that are not self help, more of just fun, light hearted books to read in your free time or before bed!
